National Night Out

Tuesday August 1st is the 23rd annual National Night Out. Created by the National Association of Town Watch, the event is designed to promote crime prevention and raise community awareness of issues like child safety. Communities across the country are encouraged to hold neighborhood walks, picnics or similar gatherings each August 1st.

TARGET stores is the national corporate sponsor of National Night Out and our local TARGET is hosting an event in the park next to their store at Broad St. by Washington Blvd. There will be a tent set up, with food and games, entertainment and give-aways. The Stamford Police Department is partnering with TARGET and will have representatives present to address such issues as internet safety and burglary prevention. There will even be an opportunity for those who might be interested in a career in law enforcement to learn more about it.

The Stamford Fire and Rescue Department, Stamford EMS and the Stamford Health Department have also been invited to participate. Kristyn Cronberger is the coordinator at TARGET and can be reached at (203) 388-0006 ext. 3209. You can also call Lt. Sean Cooney, Public Information Officer for the Stamford Police Department, at (203) 223-7261. The event will start at 4pm.
